Jack Connor and the crew are called in to clean up a bloody suicide scene in a resort hotel in Myrtle Beach. The victim was an investment banker and entrepreneur, Jon Hilborn. Almost immediately, questions arise about whether the victim was murdered. Jordan James, Connor's boss, assigns Jack to recover a half-million dollars cash he had "invested" with Hilburn, and the man's four ex-wives all have reason to hope their life insurance policies have not been voided by his manner of death. James' firm Citadel Security provides cover for Connor's unlicensed work as a PI and resources to call in during his search. James' son Eddie, the comrade Jack saved in Iraq, recovered enough to live with his mother and regaining his power of speech, tips Connor to his father's connection to the supposed victim. Danielle, a veterinarian with Disney World, is dealing with her own issues as her marriage breaks up and her estranged husband comes after Connor with a Glock. A sting operation involving a crooked DEA agent, a beautiful PI who is also a pool shark, degenerate heirs of prominent Southern families and, of course, the Dixie Mafia show up in Connor's path along the way. A stray receipt from a Charleston gay bar proves to be the key that leads to Connor's resolution of the mystery.
