The Thief of Magic
(2026)(The Trouble with Djinn)
(The first book in the Djinn Bound series)A novel by Sonya Bateman
An unlucky thief. A grumpy djinn. Together, they'll save the world...whether they like it or not.
Gavyn Donatti is a thief having a bad day in a streak of very bad days. He just lost the rusty old dagger he was hired to steal, so his ruthless boss sends thugs to kill him. When a mysterious--and apparently bulletproof--stranger sends the thugs packing, it looks like his luck is about to change.
It is. For the worse.
Turns out he's been saved by a surly, secretive genie (but don't call him that) named Ian who hates humans and only grants "wishes" under duress. If he grants them at all. Ian is pledged to help Gavyn fulfill his life's purpose. Problem is, neither of them knows what that is.
When Gavyn learns the crime boss who's after him has a djinn of his own, he's forced to accept Ian's help to fight magic with magic. And when his ex-girlfriend Jazz and the son he didn't know he had enters the picture, things get very personal, very fast.
If Gavyn doesn't embrace certain things he's just finding out about himself, and Ian doesn't put his hatred for humans aside, the world is doomed. Because contrary to what the myths says, the djinn have no interest in serving people.
They are bent on enslaving humanity, as humans once tried to enslave them.
THE THIEF OF MAGIC is a snarky, action-packed urban fantasy adventure about a pair of unlikely allies forced to navigate a criminal underworld full of mysticism and danger.
