Jessica Newton:
If there's one thing I know for sure...Christmas is a horrible time of year when you miss your loved ones the most.
My husband died two years ago in an awful fire. As the wife of a firefighter, I knew it was a possibility but I never really believed it would happen. Not to my Johnny.
Until it did.
Just breathing in and out most days is a struggle. I can't do much more than that. I pour myself into my work, letting each client's legal troubles keep me away from painful memories.
One night, a burnt dinner brings trouble to my door. Actually trouble destroys my door in the form of a gigantic, ax-wielding firefighter.
The charming, blue-eyed fireman who's way too young and carefree for a widow like me keeps coming back around no matter how much I resist his charms. I can't get involved with him. His job terrifies me. I know all too well how dangerous it is.
Michael Elliot:
Being a firefighter is all I ever wanted. It's a family tradition in Wildwood. The Elliots are firefighters. It's in our blood.
Jess ignites another kind of fire in my blood. She's smart and sexy. Too good for the likes of me.
In some ways she's so sure of herself. In others? She's way too naive.
Her clients take advantage of her. She's exhausted but she refuses to slow down and take a break even for a minute for herself.
I can't let her do this to herself but she avoids me like the plague.
I know about her husband but I also know that her heart is still strong. All it would take is a little bit of faith and she'll find her way to a new love, a new life.
She's scared. I understand that because I'm terrified to lose her. I know that she's meant to be with me. I'm meant to be that new life and new love.
Can I convince her to take a chance on us?
