Mare (2026) Emily Haworth-Booth "Warm and reflective, a novel that exists beautifully outside of human relationships, coming to rest instead on the love of a horse, and the vulnerability and strength of the animal and human body both."
The Disappointment (2026) Scott Broker "Emotionally complex and satisfyingly forthcoming, The Disappointment tells an intricate story of grief, desire, disconnection, and love. A novel about what it means to fall away for a while - from oneself or another - but not apart."
The Persians (2025) Sanam Mahloudji "An epic of intricate and beautiful proportion, The Persians is exuberant, comic, and perceptive. I fell in love with the women of the Valiat family and won't soon forget them."
The Hearing Test (2024) Eliza Barry Callahan "Not for a while have I read a book by a writer new to me, and felt so much toward it so fast. The Hearing Test takes up fragility, sound and silence, solitude, the unknown, and the self in relation to others with a light, yet serious touch. I've found a new favorite."
South (2023) Babak Lakghomi "As alluring as it is disquieting, with the strange and haunting visuals of an Andrei Tarkovsky film and the enigmatic feel of a novel by Italo Calvino."
The Easy Life (2022) Marguerite Duras "A novel of the disquieting contours of family, and of the mind, and of life unceasing even in the midst of death by one of the most important, visionary writers of all time."
The Pachinko Parlour (2022) Elisa Shua Dusapin "An exquisite, cinematic novel not afraid of subtlety. I looked forward to reading it at night, to spending time in Elisa Shua Dusapin's Tokyo, and in her pleasing sentences, which I can still hear in my mind."
Dogs of Summer (2022) Andrea Abreu "Dogs of Summer will thump through your heart and mind. A novel that consumes and sentences to die for."
Portrait of an Unknown Lady (2022) María Gainza "There are many pleasures to be had in reading Portrait of an Unknown Lady: its sublime, transcendent sentences, its arch and shadowy figures. Most of all, the zone to which you are transported, which is a Buenos Aires of canvases, trap doors, and dreams."
