It is 1978, and four men, from different ethnic and economic backgrounds, meet as patients in the cancer ward of a VA hospital. As their individual stories unfold, their lives become strangely entwined, and an inter-racial love affair that began during WW II is finally resolved. Faced with the threat of death, the men reach out for life, finding courage and hope in one another and in a bizarre game of chance.
