She was sure her heart was closed to love . . . but maybe she was wrong . . .

Before they'd even had a chance to begin their lives together, Christa lost the only man she was sure she'd ever love. But she hadn't counted on meeting Jesse. He was adventurous and courted danger at every turn-- the exact opposite of the fiance she'd lost five years before.

. . . and he was just like her.

Jesse's been fascinated by Christa since the day they met, but that's as far as he's willing to go. There isn't any room in his life for the kind of love Christa deserves, and he's all too aware that she still clings close to the memory of her murdered fiance. Jesse has no desire to compete with a dead man. Much less lust after the sister of his partner and best friend.

But when he discovers she's been secretly carrying on her long-departed fiance's work, and putting her life at risk by tracking down a deadly threat, he'll do anything to protect her. Even if it means marrying Christa to keep her safe in his own house and within his sight every second. And he can always tell her it would be a temporary arrangement, just until the danger has passed. Once he was sure she was no longer a target, well, then he could try to find a way for her to forget the past and trust her heart to him.

But his explanation of a "temporary" arrangement just might fall by the wayside since having her in his house puts temptation too close. As they follow their quarry and the sparks fly between them, will Christa finally take a second chance on love?

Christa's Love is the second book in the Silver Dollar series. Set in 1875 in San Francisco, it does have recurring characters, but can easily be read as a standalone novel.
