After all this time, there are more humans joining the Nova Slinger Corps.
Samuel's dream has finally been realized as Mark recruits an entire squad of human pilots to the cause. Some have taken quickly to the work, while others struggle, but each has the heart of a fighter, and each one wants to make a difference.
Which is good, because the war demands it.
Mark's mind remains on what he saw inside the white hole, on his conversation with the Father, and on the future of this war. He focuses on his past battles, trying to find where he made mistakes, and improving. He feels himself becoming obsessed. Only Mel can pull him back to reality, back to his friends and the joys in his life. With so much against them, she tells him, they can't forget to live.
Meanwhile, new stars have appeared inside the Uncharted Dark. Four of them, to be exact.
The Council of Three wishes to know why, so a team is dispatched. And who else can they call upon but Mark and the rest of Rylos Squadron? Mark accepts, and together with his seasoned team, he seeks out the answer to this new and frightening question.
Deep within enemy territory, the truth is soon revealed, and a new turn comes with the war. Steve told Mark that he must make his own path, but doing so will not be easy.
Then again, nothing about this path has been easy so far. Why should it start now?
