In 1890, Emily Winslow considered herself quite capable of earning her own living, so she accepted a position as school-teacher in a small Welsh village. To her town eyes, Pendwr appeared quiet and unaffected by the changing outside world. She was to discover, however, that the little community by the sea had a mystery of its own. Sir Jake Raven and James Inskip, the cockney, could not have been more different, but each was to have his effect on Emily's life.
