IT IS ELEVEN YEARS since Lorraine Crowe saw her father, Jeff. But his letter from New York brings the news that he is visiting his family for twelve days at Christmas. Her brother, Gary, is wildly excited but Lorraine has mixed feelings about this family reunion. When her father arrives, she finds her life changing. Forgotten feelings come to the surface to confuse and anger her. Jeff Crowe wants to mend bridges and she is afraid he will persuade his family to move to New York. Lorraine has been looking forward to her holidays from boarding school and a reunion with Danny Kane, who has formed his new group, Dancing on Grey Ash. The young couple have made many plans for Christmas. But Danny is so absorbed in his group's first gig that he fails to notice her misery. As Lorraine finally begins to understand the reasons for her father's return she makes a decision and does not stop to think of the consequences.
