I stand watch, cold as the stone encasing me, immortal, forgotten, lonely. Until one bright festival evening, when a young prince from a faraway land catches my gaze… and he sees me. My heart springs to life like a bloom in the sunlight. For the first time in centuries, someone knows that I’m real. I’m here.

My father is a king, but my mother was a whore. Where does that leave me? Halfling by blood, demon by nature, loner by necessity because no one, absolutely no one, will have me. In a last ditch effort to find a suitable match, Father drags me to the Gatherdawn, a spring festival of bounty and fertility—or bullies and frostbite, if you ask me. Which nobody ever does.

The trip is pointless, and I’m tempted to give up, until I lay eyes on the most handsome creature I’ve ever seen. A gargoyle, standing guard in stone form, who keeps returning my stare, ogling me from across the ballroom so shamelessly it’s a wonder his overseer doesn’t scold him for being distracted.

But when I work up the courage to speak with him, he gives me the cold shoulder. Just like everyone else.

Featuring a grumpy gargoyle bodyguard and a lonely mixling halfbreed who, despite all odds, might just find comfort in each other. Add a dash of forced proximity, only one bed, and a spicy opposites-attract chemistry, and you’ve got a steamy gay romance to heat up your imagination!
