The Long Ride Home

(2009)
A novel by

Vincentia Cumming waits on the Amtrak train platform in Tucson. Where is Lyle? He's supposed to pick her up. He's never late. He's not the type. To keep herself company she reads the email he sent her while at the Bryn Mawr College Latin program the past few weeks. Still she can't ignore the fact that she's the only passenger left. She can't pretend she doesn't see strange dudes eyeing her from either end of the platform in the darkness. When she goes inside the lighted station house, the lights suddenly go out. The phone stops working. Her dog and cat are growling at something they see in the darkness.

When she chases her dog outside, he runs into a dude who shoots at him. The guy grabs Vincentia and drives away in his jalopy with her. When the lights go on, she gasps. He looks almost exactly like Lyle --- but he doesn't act like him one bit.

What's going on? Vincentia had better find out soon, or she might soon find herself dead.
