Alisal is standing over Ginger on the beach beside the river. She is having dinner with another member of the rafting team, Rick. Alisal orders Rick to go fetch firewood right now. Nothing that Rick can say will change Alisal's mind.
To avoid a fight, Rick leaves. Alisal plops down beside Ginger. She tells him in no uncertain terms that she does not belong to him. He cannot treat her like this.
With great bravado he claims that he can. To prove his point, he tackles Ginger and starts kissing her. She fights him off until she is tired, and then she gives in. She is all too accustomed to this sort of thing since Alisal replaced her old boyfriend, Robert, as the captain of the high school rafting team.
So goes Ginger's inauspicious start down the river on her high school rafting trip. Things get much worse when she discovers that someone had his mind more on murder than on the expedition. Who is it? She is frantic to find out as one by one the members of the team get killed until only she and the most likely suspect are left.
