Gun Marshal

(1967)
A novel by

Debron's job was taming towns -- driving out the roughnecks and gunslingers, bringing law and order in their stead. Haycox was the toughest proposition he'd ever faced -- a hot, dust hell-hole swarming with rustlers, gamblers, crooked sheriffs, horse thieves and killers. But Debron was tough, smart and not a man to be awed by a reputation. Within hours of arriving he'd been in a peacheroo of a brawl with the town's roughest, hardest hombre (a giant called Hammond who could throw a longhorn with his bare hands) and run foul of the Clancy boys -- a shirttail outfit from the hills, wild as mustangs, who kept an iron grip on affairs in Haycox and took very unkindly to interfering Marshals. Crossing the Clancys was like shaking hands with a rattler. It just didn't pay -- till Debron hit town!
