A murder set up to look like an accident pulls the wheels of vengeance, greed, and retribution into motion.
In the Gauley River region of West Virginia, attorney Harper Wolfe loses what she loves most when her twin, Henry, dies in what appears to be an automobile accident. Henry was the beloved only son, and the attorney for the family business, Wolfe Mining. Possibly throwing away her own career, Harper steps into Henry's role at the coal mining business and drowns in legalities of mountaintop removal mining and its effects, coal mining opposition, and the political repercussions of the business' practices.
