When U.S. military intelligence officer Captain David Hallam is called in to investigate the brutal murder of a Vietnamese prostitute, The only clue is a brass star from the uniform of an American general. And when the killer strikes again and again, leaving behind his bloody signature in the shape of a black widow spider, Hallam and his partner, South Vietnamese Lieutenant Hu, vow to hunt him down, to stop the string of hideous murders.

But the killer is cunning and well-disguised, and he knows when their attacks are coming. Through the nightmare jungles of Vietnam, Hallam and Ku track him, until a violent conflagration destroys their quarry's hideout - and it seems impossible that he can still be alive....

Twenty years later, a young Colorado woman is horribly murdered...

The details of the crime are so shocking that there can be only one suspect. Deep beneath the Colorado Rockies, in the labyrinthine corridors of NORAD headquarters where top-secret war games rage, Hallam and Hu face their own Armageddon - and confront an old enemy in a terrifying death-duel of vengeance... and survival.
