At one point in time, my life was simple.

Fine. Not
simple, that’s just relative to the details of what was happening in my life and compared to now. Now? Yeah, no, my life and simple aren’t in the same reality any longer.

Nearly a hundred and fifty years ago, the world was wrapped in nuclear fire, yet some of humanity survived. I survived. My classmates survived. Our parents survived. And yet the love of my life just died, tearing my world apart.

How do you handle something like that? How do you handle finding out things aren’t really what they appear to be? That what you’ve known your whole life was wrong? Incomplete? Hidden?

My first plan is self-pity and work, yet that will only take you so far when the rest of the world implements their own plans that involve you. When that happens, it’s time for me to buckle down and push onward, ever onward.

As layer upon layer of confusion and mystery and barriers are removed, the startling revelation that I’m nowhere near what I thought I was comes to light. Things hidden from me will alter the face of everything that I know to be truth, bringing light to the lie that I knew the truth to begin with.

My name is Kris, and I’m struggling to survive the apocalypse. One foot in front of the other as the veils separating me from the truth start being stripped away, leaving me naked to the reality that nothing is as it seems.

Not even me.
