The Dark Bureau

(1950)
A novel by

The chase is on...

Algy Dark from Scotland Yard is in charge of the E Bureau, dubbed as the Dark Bureau after the impact he enforced. The department was set up in response to intelligence of international gangs operating across Europe.

One of the first recruits Dark took on was Tod Archer. When Archer's focus shifts to creating a television program aimed at flushing the criminals out, Dark is pleased and ensures everything is done to get the show on air.

Meanwhile, at the Mona Lisa hotel, a hive of undercover activity is underway. Notoriously shady, it's the perfect place to be to hear and see more than the detectives would otherwise. The international criminal gang is becoming bolder, their string of activities becoming more daring. They need to be stopped ... and Algy Dark won't rest until he's stopped them.

When one of Dark's interests, Paula Carson, decides to kill herself, Dark returns to square one. Why did she feel the need to kill herself? Was this a better option than admitting failure to whoever she was working for? As the police reveal more about Paula Carson, Algy Dark finds himself realising the enormity and lengths the criminal gang will go to. He decides to initiate discussions with the person Paula Carson was afraid of, and this is where things start to get more complicated for Algy Dark ...

The Butterfly resurfaces ... taking Dark back to the visual recollection of a grotesque figure.

With Archer's idea, "Meet Your Criminals", airing for the first time, the audience is not as innocent as expected. The television show runs smoothly, but the man in the black glasses is not pleased. Scotland Yard is too close for comfort and he must put a stop to the flow of their investigation. Tod Archer must be the one ...

Malone is shocked when Archer disappears. Taking matters into her own hands, she follows up on a lead that takes her straight to Eddie ... with disastrous consequences. Lewis Hull and Algy Dark are left to pick up the pieces, and ensure their team returns unharmed...
