It has been almost five years since Dr Kira Hopkins sat in a dingy bar across from the hospital after receiving the worst possible news concerning her daughter’s illness. The memory of that night was a blur but she had a vague recollection of the man who'd at some point sat down beside her in the booth offering kindness and understanding.

The following morning she'd woken to a strange sense of calm and a small cut to her palm that had already started to heal over.

Life had continued on after Phoebe’s miraculous recovery and for the next five years the memory of that dark night had faded until a save the date card had popped through her letterbox. Now she feels like she was starting to lose her mind as the world around her was becoming increasingly dangerous and bizarre. A man is making a demand for payment for his services and the laws of normality don't seem to mean much in his pursuit of what he is owed.

But that night five years ago isn't the only out of the ordinary experience that Kira has been through in her life. As a medical student almost twenty years ago she'd happened across a burning bullet ridden car after a failed underworld hit. She'd pulled a man from the wreckage and using her freshly acquired medical knowledge she had saved his life. She had never gotten the man's name but when his associates had turned up to whisk him away, he had groggily placed his own card in her hand along with a promise that if she ever needed anything then she should call.

Now with her life unraveling and unable to make sense of the supernatural threats all around her that defy belief, she's finally about to make that phone call and cash in that promise. She's about to unleash her own kind of hell, one that she might not ever be able to put back in the bottle again, because when you fight fire with fire everyone gets burned.
