Deputy U.S. Marshal Tom Wilson worked with the marshals from Cypress Creek a while back and found them to be solid, honest men. When he's given the chance to help them out again, he leaps at the opportunity. Not only that, he jumps at a chance to get away from Sue Langston for a while, the widower who's been after his attention ever since her husband died.
Samantha VanHellen reached the age of twenty-eight and decided she was done with being seen as the 'old maid' of her high-class neighborhood. While a wealthy suitor has shown her some attention, she's not interested in being a pawn for his political and financial gains. Instead, she decides to take her future into her own hands and seizes an opportunity to be a mail-order bride in Texas.
When Tom and Samantha arrive in town on the same day, they can't ignore the immediate connection they experience. But soon, the reality of the death of Samantha's intended draws them together in a different way.
Just when things start heating up in the murder case... and between Samantha and Tom, unexpected visitors arrive in Cypress Creek. Will the visitors manage to come between Samantha and Tom? Or will it be just the push they needed to realize their true feelings for each other...
