Montana Mistress

(1990)
A novel by

For years, Julianne, the indigent cousin of the wealthy Rosalind, has fed on Rosalind's fairytale letters describing her life and loves in lush detail to the one person she's certain she'll never see again.

Now Rosalind is to be married to the rangy, obdurate, plain-spoken Sam Garrison, a copper baron from Montana, and the last thing Rosalind wants is Julianne at the wedding. But family will talk -- so she's vastly relieved when Julianne proves to be mannerly, and presentable, even beautiful, in her dowdy clothes. There is even something about her that pricks Sam Garrison's interest as well -- to the point where, when Rosalind balks at walking down the aisle, and Sam swears he'll marry any of the wedding guests who will have him -- Julianne steps in and accepts the offer.

And now Sam, who didn't expect anyone to take him up on it, now must cope with the furious father of the bride who won't hesitate to kill him; a lucrative business deal gone sour, a jilted bride seeking vengeance, and a beautiful burden who could easily tempt him beyond all restraint and become his Montana mistress for real.
