The Manx Murders

(1994)
(The third book in the Noccolo Benedetti series)
A novel by

In his lifelong study of the nature and causes of human evil, Professor Niccolo Benedetti does not concern himself with trifles. So when the U.S. government wants him to resolve a feud between elderly twin millionaires, he refuses - at first. He thinks the bird-loving Clyde and cat-loving Henry are two simpletons quite unworthy of his sophisticated talents. He becomes intrigued, however, when he learns that, by mysterious means, all the birds have inexplicably vanished from Clyde's nature preserve. Benedetti arrives ready to investigate, along with his married assistants, private eye Ron Gentry and psychologist Janet Higgins. He immediately finds himself enveloped in a tangled web of obstacles, including an ambitious government official, a kidnapping, a particularly sadistic murder, and a unique witness. Soon he is surrounded by evil complex enough to tax even his own remarkable skills. The Manx Murders is the third in the Edgar Award-winning series featuring Professor Benedetti, which began with The HOG Murders and The Werewolf Murders.
