New York, Summer 1915. Clemency Jervis, her mother and her maid, Hetty, sail to England aboard the "Lusitania." Clemency is to marry, and the future looks wonderful. When the boat is torpedoedoff the Irish Coast, Clemency orders Hetty to wear her gold-initialled bracelet for safety. Hetty survives, but her mistress does not, and bearing a strong physical resemblence to her mistress, Hetty is identified as Clemency.
