Fiona must find a brooch she believes will restore her family's fortunes back in ravaged Scotland. Her search takes her to North Carolina, but instead of finding the heirloom, she finds herself tied to a whipping post, accused of being a runaway indentured servant. Owain Apking, the son of a local printer comes to her rescue, and his family takes her in, providing for her needs.
