Chicago to St. Louis
(2025)(The first book in the Coopers Do Route 66 series)
A Story by Robert Elmer
See the USA
from the back of a taxi?
Chicago, 1961: For years, Coop and Jenny Cooper have been planning how to escape their not-so-nice foster parents. But where would they go? California, of course! Coop hopes they’ll find their mom there somehow. So when a grandpa they’ve never met shows up at the Crespin home, they grab their bags and hide in the back of his big yellow taxi. And so begins a wild ride down Route 66, through eight states on the way (they hope!) to the West Coast. Sure, Coop and Jenny discover America along the way. But is there any chance of finding their true family?
In Book 1: Chicago to St. Louis, Coop and Jenny find that living on French fries and as stowaways isn’t nearly as easy (or as tasty) as they thought.
Fiction
Historical (fun!) adventure
Reading level: ages 8 to 12
Genre: Children's Fiction
