(1963)
A novel by

Webb Jernegan was a murderer and a fugitive - so stated the records of the United States Army. Once a brave and battle-hardened lieutenant in the Dragoons, he had been court-martialed for the murder of his commanding officer, Captain Sidney Raines. He was convicted and sentenced to hang. His brother Terry was sentenced to twenty years in prison as his accomplice. But Elias Barnes, his good friend and former sergeant, helped Webb escape. Twice they tried to get Terry out and failed. Believing Raines had set them up and was still alive, Webb figured the only way he would get Terry out was to find Raines and bring him back to face his crimes and clear their names.
