Some curriculum should stay buried.

When the Blackquill Royal Archivists arrive to assess structural damage in the academy's lower levels, Alden knows exactly what's down there. He also knows the assessment was mandated by the Board, and saying "please don't look under the floor" would raise more questions than he can afford.

Then the floor collapses.

Now Alden, six of his advanced students, and two historians are trapped in infrastructure that predates everything the academy has on record. Training corridors designed for an era when "acceptable casualties" was a legitimate grading metric. Construct guardians running on two centuries of degraded combat protocols. And a graduation chamber whose walls have a very long memory.

The constructs have teeth. The students have questions. And the deeper they go, the harder it gets for Alden to explain how a janitor knows the layout of a facility that hasn't been opened in two hundred years.

Some secrets stay buried because they're dangerous. Some stay buried because the person who buried them is still standing in the room.

At Warden's Rest, the foundation has always been solid. Nobody said it was simple.
