A man found murdered in a quiet street generally brings the police a crop of unpleasant problems. But when the victim is found to have a criminal record, an affluent lifestyle, and no visible honest means of support, the problems proliferate. It seems there could be a lot of villains who wanted him dead. The Catford detectives suddenly find themselves immersed in new enquiries into apparently unrelated crimes of two years ago, which can now be seen to add up to a murderous conspiracy.
