Newly recruited to the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency, Finn Dexter is on leave visiting his father's ranch near Ellsworth, Kansas, when a friend's letter causes some concern. Ned Sullivan's son Matt has been shot, and is coming to the ranch to recuperate. And when Matt arrives the next day, a gunman tries to finish the job Finn must employ all his detection skills if he is to get to the bottom of the shooting, and uncover the nest of vipers responsible.
