"She doesn't have nightmares. She is one."

Cameron Axley walks out of Ashcroft Penitentiary with nothing. No money, no home, no future. Just scars on his knuckles, memories he'll never speak about, and a phone with a tracker signal that hasn't moved in four years.

She waited. He always knew she would.

Lakey counted every single day. One thousand four hundred and sixty-one of them, scratched into a piece of paper. When Cam walks up the road to the gates of St. Agnes with no laces in his shoes and her name tattooed on his chest, she punches him in the face so hard her knuckles split. Then she kisses him until they both taste blood.

The world doesn't want them. Nobody hires a convicted felon and nobody houses two kids the system spat out. So when a man from Cam's past offers him a mask, a cage, and cash for every body he puts on the concrete, he takes it. Because Cam would bleed for her every night of the week and twice on Sundays, and Lakey would watch his back while he does.

But good things never last. The man pulling the strings isn't offering favours. The fights are rigged, the debts are mounting, and the shadows that separated them as children are closing in again.

Someone put them in those cages... and they're not done yet.

Broken Shadow is prequel one of the Shattered Souls series and ends on a cliffhanger. Books must be read in order to fully understand the universe.
