In the California mountains, Bab Gale has been allowed to roam free since her father was killed in a logging accident when she was barely six. When Conroy, a crooked lawyer, comes up with a plan to force her to marry him, she flees to the woods and the security of her familiar mountains. She finds herself in more trouble when she witnesses a murder and her repulsed suitor accuses her of the crime.
