Lucky Stiff

(2017)
(The first book in the Mackay & Grayson series)
A novel by

When a five-thousand-dollar-a-night Russian call girl is found murdered in the bed of Lucky Byrnes, Sarasota philanthropist and former star of the hit '70s TV show 'Johnny One Gun', police lieutenant James "Mack Mackay is sent to Byrnes bay front mansion to investigate. As Mack surveys a staged crime scene, he realizes he has more than a woman's murder on his hands.

Byrnes is missing.

Is he the murderer? Was he kidnapped? Abducted?

Mack's friend Mervyn Grayson, a retired federal prosecutor turned real estate agent, knows Lucky well. Mack enlists his help and, together, they uncover the shocking secrets that set this murder and disappearance in motion.

Seems Lucky got sideways with the Russian mafia operating in Florida. The Russians have their hooks into Sarasota's newest high-rise condo development and it looks to Mack like they got rid of Lucky to protect their investment. While Mack and Grayson believe the Russians committed the crimes, they lack hard evidence.

So with help from some of Lucky's 'Johnny One Gun' buddies, they set a trap.

What happens next puts even the most intense TV cop show to shame.
