Neil Gunn resigned his post in the Civil Service, sold his house, bought a boat and set off. The voyage was undertaken in the 1930s, through the islands of the Inner Hebrides, and it is a voyage of discovery - of the power of the sea, of the beauty of the islands and of the legends of those who live in them, and of Celtic and Norse civilisations.
