The Siren's Call

(2023)
A novel by

It is 1922 and Dr. Alan Twist, an authority in the occult sciences and the paranormal, has been invited by the lord of Cranston Manor in a remote corner of Cornwall to investigate a series of hauntings.

His journey is interrupted by the shrill cries of a young woman. Everyone in the region believes that it is cursed by a siren, who emits
Banshee calls. If they are heard by two out of a group of individuals but not the third, then that individual will die a violent and mysterious death within a few hours--which is what happened to the grandfather of Lydia, the lady of the manor.

The hauntings involve the Rose Room, situated in the attic, from whence mysterious footsteps can be heard in the middle of the night. When the lord and lady of the manor and her son go to investigate, they corner the "phantom", but when they open the door it has vanished.

The mysterious deaths continue to multiply, seemingly without human involvement, and many involving a winged creature, until Alan Twist solves the case, his first.

Locked Room International publishes the works of impossible crime authors, past and present.
