At just 20 years old, Elvi is eagerly looking forward to her wedding, and to embarking on a new life with her fiance, Alan. Though Alan is much older than Elvi he is highly regarded by her widowed father, and he is generally considered to be a good catch. Yet Elvi's oldest friend, Jean, is puzzled and slightly concerned by Elvi's reticence on the subject of Alan, when she stays with her in Scotland before the wedding. And when Elvi meets Callum, a young journalist on the local Scottish paper, she too realises that what she feels for Alan is not, after all, 'true love'...
