Having escaped the bloodbath at Xaros by the skin of his teeth, warship captain Jed Grisham waits for his next mission. The Human Federation’s war with the Kijol rages. Defeat looms for humanity.
Out of the blue, Grisham’s commanding officer invites him to join a game as deadly as any Kijol Eternus. The Human Federation is in danger of fracturing and battle lines will soon be drawn. Grisham has no choice but to pick a side.

Hanging over Grisham is the knowledge that even if he makes it home, his troubles won’t nearly be over.
His one hope lies beneath the fused sands of Ovintus - if only he can seize the opportunity.
