When is a crime not a crime?

Morvoren, the priestess of the Dumnonii in Dark Age Britain, has to travel most of the length of their land to solve a new mystery that the chieftan, Comux, cannot deal with. Kenosaglas has killed his life-long friend, Eudaf, claiming that Eudaf was a spy for the nearby Saxons. If Kenosaglas is telling the truth then he cannot be punished for his actions. If he killed Eudaf for another reason, Kenosaglas is a murderer who will probably face execution.

Morvoren faces a seemingly unsolvable puzzle since no one witnessed Eudaf's death except for his killer. Even the two men's families can tell her nothing helpful and Kenosaglas's own children insist that Eudaf was not a traitor. Her search for the truth leads her to another confrontation with the Saxon leader who once wanted to marry her.

In the meantime, the Christian deacon Uxio has been left behind at Bran Castle and has a reunion that leaves his future with the Dumnonii in question.

The danger increases for Morvoren, who is under the protection of Comux, the son of the queen who hates her. When her life depends on it, will she be able to trust him?

Read the fourth historical mystery novel in this exciting series set in a time where an argument can end in a sword fight and people believe in giants and pixies.
