A novel from an oil decade. In the spring of 1973 it was announced that oil had been discovered in the North Sea off Shetland, changing the peaceful community of these islands forever. Industrial sites sprang up where there had been empty hillsides, and local traditions and culture were undermined and sometimes destroyed by the sudden influx of soothmoothers in search of a fast buck - or a new life.
