A New Beginning

(2011)
A novel by

Grieving the loss of her beloved Grandparents who took her in when her parents died, twenty-something Roni Kennedy is desperately trying to hold her life together.

Roni runs a small business growing and selling vegetables, but her plans to expand and make a living without her Grandfather's help are stunted when she realises she must learn how to manage intimidating business accounts.

Thrown back to her troubled school days, Roni is dissuaded by her lack of maths skills.

She meets Joe Cole, a finance lecturer whose class she wills herself to take, his wife Ruth who becomes a firm friend, and their troubled son Simon, a teacher who lost a leg in a hit and run car crash. Simon initially treats Roni with contempt, but is his behaviour a cover up?

Whilst on the brink of giving up on his own life, Simon refuses to let Roni give up on her dream, taking her, and her accounts, under his wing. Behind Simon's defensive coldness, something blossoms between the pair and glimpses of Simon's old self slowly resurface.

Will Simon be able to let go of his anger and resentment to achieve the future he once saw so clearly?

Will Roni be able to put her fears and insecurities aside to hold on to her business, and even to find love?

Can they find a way to move on from the pasts that hold each of them back, and find a new beginning?

'A New Beginning' is a touching story of forgiveness, love, and second chances.
