For a retired mortician, Mary has an unfortunate tendency to dig up things that are none of her business.

When the strange blue fiber she discovered beneath her roses refuses to remain merely strange, Mary decides to find out where it came from.

Her investigation leads her to the estate of Eston Lumbert, the recently deceased founder of the colony—and to a few things about the old man's past that don't quite add up.

Naturally, Boris gets involved.

Together, they set out to discover what the mysterious object is, why it was buried beneath Mary's garden, and what the late Mr. Lumbert might have had to do with it.

Because Mary has spent a lifetime dealing with the dead.

And if there's one thing she's learned, it's that they have a surprising habit of leaving things behind.
