When Annie Skye a successful Manhattan trial lawyer is asked to return to Wyoming and defend her nephew on death row, she reluctantly has to bring with her former Mafia hit man Jack Scarnetti who is remanded to her on parole.

Back in Casper, Wyoming, where she conducts her own investigation using forensic evidence from the trial, Annie soon realizes her client, Lakota Sioux Indian Jerome Two Bulls, couldn't have committed the murder of Cassandra Madison. As she and Jack Scarnetti seek to find the truth in all of this, one witness after another start turning up dead.

During the initial autopsy, lab technician Leo Pipp discovers that County Coroner Doctor Kane Ito has omitted some of the forensic evidence that is used at the trial to convict Two Bulls and begins to worry if he could end up dead like the others for what he knows.

Carter Madison, the father of the murdered woman, a wealthy rancher, businessman, and politician, would like nothing more than to see Two-Bulls pay with his life for the murder of his daughter. If for no other reason than because his daughter has thrown his authority and good name in his face by dating an American Native Indian and worse yet, who might have gotten her pregnant.

As the date of execution approaches, the heat picks up as another witness is killed. Through all of this, Annie Skye has uncovered the identity of the real killer, but will she be able to have her day in court or will she be among those who turn up dead?
