After the Great War, computers were banned. They had turned on people. They were viewed as unsafe. There is one exception - Eden. Eden is a virtual reality experience unlike anything else. When a person enters, the simulation becomes as real as the reality they left. In fact, people enter the game when they are about to die, and as their bodies deteriorate and their first life ceases, their consciousness lives on in Eden. Death has been cheated.
Sixteen-year-old Karri Houston's little sister is terminally ill. Her one chance to live is to enter Eden. There's a problem, though. Not everyone is allowed to enter; Eden is a luxury reserved for society's elite. There's only one way Karri can get her sister inside - she must become a Guardian of Eden. The Guardians of Eden are an elite military task force. They use Eden's strange principles to protect the citizens inside from its many threats. To make it, Karri will have to show that she's a one-in-thirty applicant as she goes through the Trials, a mysterious weeding out process that all Guardians must go through. She'll have to learn the magic and secrets of the simulated universe. The stakes are high. Death in Eden not only means that Karri's sister won't get to enter, but it also means death in the real world for Karri.
