QUESTION
Where are the Picts? Where are the 'missing' Anglo-Saxon kingdoms? Where are the ancient monasteries which represented the start of a new civilisation in Britain after the fall of Rome?
ANSWER
They were all destroyed by the second wave of savage barbarians to sweep over the British Isles . . . the Vikings! A race of destroyers still so popular that people name rugby league teams after them. Sorry historian Peter Sawyer and inhabitants of Scandinavia and Minnesota: the Vikings really were savage!

In this book the Vikings are sent back to Scandinavia before they ever get started on their rampage through the Isles.
The book presents the start of an Alternative History of Britain in which various kingdoms and people which were written out of British History such as the Picts, Northumbrians, Strathclyde Britons, West Welsh, and the many smaller Anglo-Saxon kingdoms which were absorbed by more powerful states such as WESSEX.

The story follows the adventures of a group of British soldiers who are mysteriously transported back to 793 A.D. just in time to save the famed monastery at LINDISFARNE and then the PICTISH population of Northern Scotland from destruction at the hands of illiterate, pagan plunderers from across the North Sea.

SAS troopers hold back the Viking hordes against heavy odds and then set about creating a new civilisation in Britain in which they can survive . . . a civilisation somewhat like SWITZERLAND . . . . a federal entity in which Anglo-Saxon, modern English, Welsh and the Welsh variant spoke by the Picts, west welsh and Gaelic can all survive on an equal footing.
