Gladiators of Hapanu

(1979)
(Book 31 in the Blade series)
A novel by

An incredible dimension awaits blade when he awakes in an Amazon-like jungle nest to a river with giant crocodiles. Blue-skinned and tattooed tribesmen paddle by in their canoes. Except for their warring ways in a land where tribe is always pitted against tribe, Blade finds no cause for complaint. It is the city people of Hapanu who bring out his ever-present need to right wrongs. With habits, weaponry, and a culture similar to the ancient Romans, the Hapanus enslave the tribesmen to work in their mines, enslave the tribeswomen as concubines - and use and abuse the strong as Gladiators. Blade is captured and forced to become a Gladiator; then, as leader of the slaves, he fights for the overthrow of Hapanus. In a dimension where the powerful cruelly dominate the weak, in a dimension where the rich exploit the poor, will Blade be able to attract the might of the free tribesmen to his cause? Will they conquer the evil Hapanus?
