The American Civil War
Washington has fallen to the rebel forces.
As both sides reassess what will follow, the war escalates in intensity, while the Union and the Confederacy realise that this conflict will not be decided in a matter of weeks. What had been considered a minor scuffle to be easily put down by renowned General McDowell has now morphed into a full-fledged armed rebellion following the Confederate victory at Bull Run and the fall of the Union capital.
The United States of America is no more, and the future of the country is now hanging in the balance. A new Union commander, General George B. McClellan, tries as best he can to reorganize the U.S. Army while picking up his men's shattered morale. On the other side of the battlefield that is now America, General Robert E. Lee tries to consolidate his hold on Washington, D.C., while he also reorganizes the army of enthusiastic but poorly trained and equipped troops he has under his command.
Through all the maelstrom, death, and fighting, one thing is certain. Union President Abraham Lincoln will not negotiate or surrender even if he has lost his capital. He pushes Congress and the leadership for even more soldiers, even more guns, and a war that will now be to the finish with the rebels in the South.
This is the story of the American Civil War as it might have been.
