The year is 1945
America is closing in on the Japanese Home Islands to put a definitive end to the Pacific War. Manila has been liberated, and Japanese General Yamashita is preparing for his last-ditch defenses in Luzon’s jungle interior. Meanwhile, maverick anti-hero Ichiro Tanaka, who has recently arrived on Luzon, is trying to flee back to Japan, but then he hears a story about gold hidden in the mountains.
With the Philippines almost neutralized, the American juggernaut starts looking for Formosa’s airfields, while U.S. Navy Admiral Nimitz and U.S. Army General MacArthur prepare invasion plans for landings in the Bonin Islands (Iwo Jima) and the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa), in order to have close-support airbases for the eventual invasion of Japan itself.
Meanwhile, Tokyo and the other Japanese cities burn through the ground with the new American firebombing technique, as most of the Nipponese housing and buildings are made of paper and wood. Japanese pilots like Commander Minoru Genda give their all with their new Kikka jet fighters to try and fend off the hordes of B-17s and B-29s plastering the country with death and fire.
