R F Kuang recommends

Empire of Sand (2018)
(Books of Ambha, book 1)
Tasha Suri
"A darkly intricate, devastating, and utterly original story about the ways we are bound by those we love."

The Monster of Elendhaven (2019)
Jennifer Giesbrecht
"A tight, perfectly crafted story about retribution and what monsters deserve; stylish, quirky, and weirdly sexy? I'm into it."

The First Sister (2020)
(First Sister Trilogy, book 1)
Linden A Lewis
"Wonderfully imaginative and gripping - Lewis's debut sucks you in from the very first scene and keeps you absorbed in a rollercoaster of high-octane action and devastating twists. Her prose is rich and assured; her characters complex and compelling. I couldn't put it down."

The Chosen and the Beautiful (2021)
Nghi Vo
"This book is Gatsby the way it should have been writtendark, dazzling, and fantastical. Of course Jordan Baker should have been the main character. Of course everyone should have been messing with magic. Vo has created a perfect response to Fitzgerald in tone, voice, and theme."

Kaikeyi (2022)
Vaishnavi Patel
"Mythic retelling at its best: entrancing, troubling, and complicated. Kaikeyi is marvelous."

Tread of Angels (2022)
Rebecca Roanhorse
"The world sucks you in from the start, and the pacing yanks you along by the collar. Black Sun is instantly riveting from the beginning - Roanhorse is at the top of her game here."
