When Mary Smucker returns home from her rumspringa, she has no idea what she's supposed to be doing next. She was living in an Englischer city for two years, and although the experience was very valuable, she never thought she'd feel so torn.
Deciding whether or not she'd stay in her Amish community shouldn't be so difficult. Things should be easy for her, especially since Christmas is just around the corner. It should be a time for celebration with her family, but it feels very far from that. What can Mary do to change her feelings?
It doesn't help that Frank Foster, who was one of the men she had met while on her rumspringa, has followed her to the Amish community in which she grew up in. He seems to misunderstand the intentions of her returning to the community. Frank wants Mary to return with him back to the city, and it seems like he will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Just how far is Frank willing to go to bring Mary out of the Amish community and back to the Englischer world?
When Amos Yoder realizes that Mary has returned to the community, he is immediately struck by the lack of difference in those two years. She is still just as vibrant as ever, with as beautiful a voice as he remembered her having. However, Amos is extremely shy and fears asking any woman to court him, especially Mary. Can Amos overcome his fears and ask Mary to court him?
Torn between two very different worlds, Mary must make a difficult choice. Does she return to the city with Frank, or does she stay in the Amish community with her family? Will Mary fall in love with Frank, Amos, or someone entirely different? When everyone's faith in Gott is put to the ultimate test, will there be true love found and a merry Christmas for all?
