When Gabrielle Troyer gets the news that her mother is dying, she isn’t sure how to take it. The physician in their community and the Englischer doctor agree: her mother has only a year or two left to live. After that, the illness will have ravaged her body too much for her to continue.
With her mother so ill, the Troyer family and Gabrielle, in particular, do all that they can to see to it that her last wishes are made true. This is rather difficult, as Annie Troyer's last wishes are to see Gabrielle get married and to see some grandchildren in the family.
Meanwhile, Chandler Miller has spent two years mourning the loss of his late wife, Susannah. He was in love with her and has found it hard to move on. While he is running errands one afternoon, he meets an Englischer named Caroline Walsh who rubs him the wrong way.
Realizing that her sights are set on him for marriage, Chandler must find a way to get her attention put on someone else since she can't take a hint. With two years passed since his wife died, it would be acceptable to start courting again...and a certain young woman in the community catches his attention.
