Dorothy Lambert is a slightly older woman, but she is still looking for love. Her father owns a rather successful lumber business, and she has slowly been mending her heart from a terrible heartbreak four years ago. That’s how long it has been since Samuel Albrecht left her.
Then, one Sunday, she hears that Samuel Albrecht has returned. Her heart is shattered all over again. How is she to forgive the man that hurt her? Thankfully, she can maintain her distance for a few days to get over the shock of the news.
However, she can’t maintain that distance for long. Samuel seeks her out to apologize for how he had hurt her. She can’t quite believe it, but she is willing to let him see her. He drops the news that he wants to continue courting her when he finds her still unmarried.
She absolutely refuses to let him pick up where he left off. The shards of her heart still dig deep at that wound. He understands, but the situation becomes more complicated when her father refuses to let her see him because he doesn’t want to see her be hurt again. Further complicating the matter, her brothers are all thinking of someone or are courting someone.
With her own heart on the line, Dorothy must seek out the right decision. Will she allow Samuel back into her life as a possible husband, or turn him away for wrongs unable to be undone?
