Silenced Night

(2026)
(The fifth book in the DI Ryan Hale series)
A Story by

All is calm. All is bright. Someone's not leaving tonight.

While 'Silenced Night' is chronologically book 5 and involves the whole team, it can be read as a standalone festive novella or as an introduction to the series. No need to have read the earlier books, and no spoilers for them either.

DI Ryan Hale has faced killers, kidnappers and a station that whispers behind his back. Nothing could have prepared him for a school hall full of five-year-olds dressed as sheep and at least three innkeepers.

Roped in, along with the rest of the team, to watch DS Fiona Bennett's twins in the village nativity, Ryan has a survival plan. Sit through the tea-towel shepherds. Take the piss out of DC Cal Pine, who has somehow ended up in elf ears, lobbing candy canes from a trailer in the tractor parade. Then head for the pub, where the mulled wine is flowing and a team Christmas party is threatening to break out.

Until the village Santa, minutes after ho-ho-hoing his way down the high street in the back of a tractor, is found stabbed in Santa's grotto.

And the snow starts to fall.

With the roads closed, no back-up coming and a village full of suspects in reindeer antlers, Ryan and his team must find out who silenced Santa, before the thaw lets a killer walk free.

A Christmas cracker of a mystery for one long winter's night, perfect for fans of LJ Ross, JD Kirk and TG Reid.
